Emerald updates πŸŒŸπŸš€

⭐ Remember to join in with our class blog challenge! Can you write a space fact to share with the class? The team with the most points will win the trophy in Friday’s assembly! ⭐ Please see our earlier blog post for more information!

We have been super busy so far this half term! Emerald Class are getting really stuck into our space topic and it is such a pleasure to see how enthusiastic and curious the children are!

We made good use of our art books this week. With Mrs Huntbach, the children created their own rocket pictures using drawing skills. Later in the week, we used black and white colours to create a repeating pattern. We explored the effect of the colours before adding geometric details. The children were also challenged to ensure their rocket had a symmetrical pattern.
Well done Emeralds, you worked really hard and we love the effect of the rockets!

The children were so engaged during the task! πŸ˜ƒ Well done Emeralds!

We love our art activities!

Our wonderful Emerald Bear also couldn’t resist joining in with our space fun! He had an adventure to space which Emerald children loved to write about! Emerald Bear certainly goes on some fun and exciting adventures! Check out the wonderful descriptions written by our Year One children! Wow πŸš€πŸŒŸ

This week is also Money Sense Awareness Week! We talked about what we use money for as well as learning about the value of coins. We ordered them from the smallest to largest value, as well as learning how to make amounts. We worked on finding amounts up to 20p. Tomorrow we will make a toy shop and use the coins to be able to pay for the toys! Emerald Class worked really hard to sort the coins and to identify their values Well done!

Super work Emerald Class! πŸ˜ƒβ

Awesome Origami

This week we have started a topic on writing instructions. To help us understand what a good set of instructions needs, we followed an example set and an instructional video to show us how to make paper hats, paper elephants and paper dogs.

After following these videos and instructions, we created our own set of instructions describing how to create paper hats so we could help other people make them too.

Team challenge

Our first team blog challenge is going to be based on instructions. I would like you to look around your house and create a list of all of the places where you find examples of instructions. Top tip – try looking at baking ingredients, cook books or manuals that come with toys and gadgets.

The team that finds the most different items containing instructions will win a team price.

✨ Dazzling Diwali! πŸ•― πŸ’‘πŸ’Ž

Today Diamond Class learned all about Diwali- the Festival of Lights! ✨ We had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning about why Diwali is celebrated and how it is celebrated around the world. We learned that it is a time of joy and often includes lots of beautiful fireworks!

We started creating our own diyas (lanterns) out of clay! They are going to be so beautiful when they are finished. Make sure to check back later on in the week for the finished product! ☺️

We also had great fun creating our own Rangoli Patterns this afternoon too! πŸ•―πŸ˜€πŸ’Žβœ¨

REMEMBRANCE CINQUAIN POETRY

After watching a short animation called Beyond the Lines, we thought carefully about the message in the film and discussed its meaning and importance.

I was very impressed by the children’s thoughtful responses and sensitivity.

Next, we brainstormed what soldiers might see, hear , smell and feel. We used these ideas to create CINQUAIN poems. Our favourites will be shared during the Remembrance Service on Thursday.

πŸ’ŽColour! 🎨 ⭐️

This week Diamond Class are learning all about colour! πŸ˜€

We are using the story β€˜Elmer’ to learn all about colours! ☺️ We love this story!

We’ve had lots of fun sorting colours and mixing them together to make brand new colours! We learned that if we add white to a colour it makes it lighter and if we add black to a colour it makes it darker! πŸ˜€

Diamond Class are amazing! πŸ’ŽπŸ˜€
