Roman Warriors

For this weeks homework Opal class were asked to design a Roman shield which they believed would represent them in battle.

Today we brought those designs to life and along with some amazing shields made at home we went outside to practice our formations.

First, we have the wedge. This is used to split enemy forces in half so they cannot fight as a unit.

Next, we have the Repel cavalry which is used to repel arrows and enemies on horse back.

I was incredibly impressed with the discipline of the Opal class legion and believe they are ready for battle whenever they are called upon.

🌁How do bridges & arches hold weight? 🌉

Last Friday, Onyx class had the best time in their DT lesson exploring how compression works in bridges and arches. They linked this to the way igloos hold their own weight 🧊

They made their very own mini versions of different types of arch out of clay and tested whether they collapsed when the ‘key stone’ was removed.

Here are some of their masterpieces…😃

Opal Class Mezuzah

As part of world religion day and our on going work on Judaism Opal class created their own Mezuzahs. First, we looked at what a Mezuzah is, where it would be place in the home and why Jewish people have Mezuzahs in their home.

Then, we created the box for our scrolls to go in using our cutting, folding and sticking skills

Then, we created our scrolls using paper and lolly pop sticks. We added some important rules of our class room to the scrolls before rolling them up and putting them in to the Mezuzah boxes.

Finally, we put our Mezuzah by our door like it would be in a jewish home.
