We had a brilliant hour in Topaz class today whilst the children shared all the fantastic Viking activities they have completed for homework.
The most popular activities have been making Viking biscuits and making longships.
We also have some of the children’s projects on Teams to look forward to sharing after the holidays.

This afternoon we took our wonderful Year 5 and 6 Athletics team to the Indoor Athletics competition at Malbank.
After 2.5 years of having no sports competitions, they performed AMAZINGLY! Super running, excellent teamwork and camaraderie, great sportsmanship, superb listening and even better cheering- we were soo proud!
Well done everyone and a special thank you to all the parents for being wonderful taxis!
This afternoon, in Topaz Class, we have been busy painting our clay clocks which we have made in the style of Salvador Dali. Our aim was to work really carefully and neatly. What do you think?
As part of National Story Telling Week (30th January- 6th February) , we have launched our new Poetry Spine. Each class now has a poetry box which contains a selection of fantastic poetry anthologies as well as a focus on a particular poet for each term.
The purpose is to increase the children’s familiarity and confidence with poems and rhymes from Reception to Year 6.
KS1 will share a POEM OF THE WEEK to encourage familiarity and repetition.
In KS2, we will share a POEM A DAY.

In art the children in Topaz class have been finding out about Salvador Dali, the Surrealist artist. Today the children experimented with clay to replicate Salvador Dali’s clock painting. We can wait to share the end results with you!
The children in Topaz class have been developing their understanding of reading genre. They fully accepted the challenge of matching all the key features to the different genres abs shown in the photos. Some were a bit tricky but they showed great resilience! Well done Team Topaz!
Topaz Class spent the afternoon investigating the properties of materials. They worked very well as a team and used the apparatus carefully. We talked about why products are made of certain materials depending on their properties.
Topaz class thoroughly enjoyed their Maths starter this morning as they were playing a game that helped them practise recording Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers.

This week in Topaz class, we have been investigating the features of non-fiction reports. Almost all of the reports we looked at contained:
We all really enjoyed finding out different facts. Here are a few of our favourites;
– Vikings had ironing boards .
– Kangaroos 🦘 can hop at up to 30 miles per hour !
-Whale sharks can grow up to 30 metres and are the largest fish in the world.
Minky sharks are the fastest.
This afternoon Topaz class joined in with the rest of KS2 to take part in our sponsored Elf Run to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice. The children were amazing and ran many laps of the school grounds! There were many rosy cheeks at the end – true elf style!
