✖️➗Mega Maths Homework✖️➗

Onyx Class had great fun playing and evaluating the games they made for their homework last week.

The objective was to design and produce a game to practise multiplication and division of 10, 100 & 1000. There were so many amazing ideas and the children loved getting stuck in and adapting them if needed!🤩

In addition to making their games, the children had to write a detailed set of instructions so that ANYONE could play their game without being shown how. This wasn’t an easy task, however after some self editing, they blew Mrs Kyles and my socks off! Well done everyone! 👏

🤩Children’s Mental Health Week 🤩

Onyx Class have celebrated Children’s Mental Health week in lots of different ways. The theme of ‘growing together’ was definitely a perfect one! ❤️

Dress to Express Day raising money for Place2Be

Over the week, we came up with lots of different ways we could help each other to grow emotionally as a class. Our favourite idea was to hold a ‘Time to Grow’ session every week where children can share any problems or worries they have and others listen and try to suggest ways that could help them to feel better ❤️

Year 5 & 6 also wrote their own letters to their younger selves offering advice and support for the years to come. The understanding and empathy shown was outstanding! ✨

Next week, we are going to get outside and dirty by reviving our garden area at the front of school. We are going to plant lots of bee friendly seeds to help the bee population to grow, as well as our own emotional understanding. Stay tuned for pictures! 👩‍🌾🧑‍🌾🪴🪴🌹🌷🌻🐝🐝🐝🐝

Safer Internet Day 2022

Safer Internet Day 2022 was celebrated on 8th February with the theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.

From gaming and chat, to streaming and video, young people are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of. Safer Internet Day 2022 celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet, whether that is whilst gaming and creating content, or interacting with their friends and peers.

Yesterday, Onyx Class spent the afternoon talking and learning about how to react to different scenarios that may occur and how their actions show respect to others. They thought about how they would react in person and how their actions would change or be the same if they were on the computer.

They then recommended some games and shared ways to stay safe whilst playing them.

This weekend, Onyx class will be continuing with their internet safety work and completing lots of different tasks for their homework. 🤩

🚶‍♀️🚶🚶‍♂️January Walking Challenge🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️🚶

Onyx Class are pleased to announce that we SMASHED our January walking challenge! 🥳

The aim was to walk from coast to coast (St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay) just like the famous Alfred Wainwright did. The aim was 190 miles.

In total, Onyx class walked 311.27 miles!!!!!!! Wehooooooo!!!!!

A HUGE well done to all the Onyx families who got stuck in and helped us to achieve such a fantastic total!

📚NATIONAL STORY TELLING WEEK 📚

As part of National Story Telling Week (30th January- 6th February) , we have launched our new Poetry Spine. Each class now has a poetry box which contains a selection of fantastic poetry anthologies as well as a focus on a particular poet for each term.

The purpose is to increase the children’s familiarity and confidence with poems and rhymes from Reception to Year 6.

KS1 will share a POEM OF THE WEEK to encourage familiarity and repetition.

In KS2, we will share a POEM A DAY.

Look out on the BLOG in future weeks for the children’s favourite poems!
