Throughout Year One, we have planned four seasonal weeks for us to learn more about the seasons! We have had a super start to our Autumn week!
Many thanks for all your hard work at home to collect lots of wonderful Autumn treasures! The children have added so many wonderful things to our class collection and we have used these to make our very own sensory descriptions of Autumn.
We loved sharing our Autumn treasures with the class!
Welcome to Emerald Class blog! Now our blog is up and running, we can share lots of our learning with you!
Emerald children have had a super start to their time in Year One. They have worked incredibly hard to learn the new rules and routines and we are really proud of your hard work! It’s a joy to be in Emerald Class with such happy and curious learners!
Learning
In English, the children have been working hard to write instructions. As part of our seasonal learning, the children planted daffodils. We can’t wait to see them flower in the spring! Emerald Class discussed and wrote the instructions for how to plant the bulbs. They worked very hard to include ‘bossy’ verbs and time words. In Emerald Class, we are working very hard to read our writing back aloud and check that our sentences make sense. Our class target is to make sure our sentences begin with a capital letter, include finger spaces between words and end with a full stop.
Linking to Halloween learning, Emerald Class then made their very own magic potions. They wrote the instructions for how to fly, become invisible and even how to turn into a cat! Emerald Class are very imaginative and used lots of interesting ingredients in their potions!
In Maths, we are following the White Rose Scheme. The children are working brilliantly on using the part-whole model to find different ways to make numbers. We are currently exploring number bonds. We are using resources to support us and models such as bar models, tens frames and the whole-part model.
Please see the sheet sent home with ideas how to support your child to learn the number bonds! Emerald Class are enjoying exploring the different ways to make numbers.
A few weeks ago, the Year 6 pupils wrote and delivered their own speeches to the rest of their team stating why they should be chosen to be a Team Captain, Sports Captain or Recycling Officer.
They explained what qualities they had and how these would help their team to be successful this year.
After listening to the speeches, every team member (from Reception to Year 5) had the really hard task of choosing which role suited which Year 6. Each team used democratic votes to decide who would get to wear which shiny, new badge! ๐ก
Thank you to all the members of staff who got stuck in and supported their teams beautifully! We canโt wait to see all the teamwork thatโs going to go on this year!
I hope youโve had an amazing summer! Iโve been super busy playing with the cats; helping with the extension; going on lots of walks; being groomed and spending lots of time with my family!!! ๐
Waiting in the car ready to come to schoolโฆ
Mum has just cleaned the car out which is making me jump up and down with joy as I know it can only mean one thing: seeing all of you again on Thursday! ๐ I have missed you all soo much and I can not wait to sit down with you and listen to all the exciting things you have been doing (whilst being stroked & cuddled of course!) I am especially excited to meet the new Reception children and make even more friends-WELCOME TO THE SOUND FAMILY! Yey! ๐คฉ
Iโm soo happy to be seeing my Sound friends again!
Padmeโs Postbox Challenge: This week in my postbox Iโd like you to draw a picture or write to me about what makes you smile! ๐ I smile when I see my friends and when you tickle me behind my right ear! Remember to add in lots of details and colourโฆ I canโt wait to get reading!
The day had finally comeโฆ. the last day before Y6 moved onto High School! What a day it has been!
First up, the whole school managed to get outside in the glorious sun where we held a whole school presentation ceremony. The leavers received their thesauruses and their memory books and we presented our Sports Personality and Progress Plate.
A HUGE congratulations goes to Callum for Sports Personality and Evie for gaining the plate. We are really proud of them, as we are of them all! ๐คฉ
Next, we managed a socially distanced T-shirt signing session where every class wrote some special words on the childrenโs shirts whilst enjoying the outdoors. We have never used so many wipes and sanitiser, but it was all worth it and the 6โs will treasure these forever! Willโs even getting his framed!
Finally, all the children in the school had great fun watching the wonderful Leaversโ Assembly. There were lots of laughs and a LOT of tears (in Onyx Class!) We hope all the Year 6 families enjoyed the ham and Peppa Pig as much as we did, & didnโt sob too much at the end?!
Lunchtime fun with a last footie game thrown in! โฝ๏ธ
We wish all our Year 6 children the most amazing future: keep smiling, keep being you and go get โem!
This morning we held a special assembly to think about how we were all feeling after Englandโs defeat in the Euros Final. We thought about how the players must be feeling and we talked about how it is OK to feel disappointed when we donโt win or get something we have worked hard for.
We then looked at what an amazing team England have been and what fantastic role models they have been for us all. Teamwork, pride and strength were just some of the words we used to describe them ๐คฉ.
Next, we thought about how we could all learn from the England Team and what attributes the Sound Team can take from them:- determination, trying hard, championing others, supportive, unity, bravery, inclusiveness โฆ. the list was endless!
Even though England lost, we are still all so proud of them and thank them for being such wonderful ambassadors. We canโt wait for the World Cup next year and maybe, just maybe, football will come home! ๐
