At the beginning of term we each planted sunflower seeds and over the past few weeks we have been watching them change and grow. As part of our lesson today, we spent time observation their features and investigating how tall they have grown! 🌻

Forest School! 🌳🌲❤️
Friday’s nature inspired Mental Health Week activity was a trip to Forest School! ⭐️
Deciduous and Evergreen Trees! 🌲🌳
We have been learning all about trees in Science.
Have you noticed that nature changes with each season? Some trees change colour in autumn: like this oak tree and these sliver birch. The leaves turn to shades of yellow, orange, pink, red and gold. And then drop… leaving the branches bare all winter. We call these deciduous trees. It means ‘to fall off’.
But not all trees change and shed their leaves; some are evergreen. They stay green all year long! These trees all have thin, pointy leaves called needles. Some are long and soft, and some are short and sharp.
Some trees can grow taller than tall buildings. They can be thousands of years old. They grow taller and taller and their trunks get thicker and thicker. If you were to slice through a tree, you could work out how old it is, because it grows a ring of bark each year.
⭐️ Friendship! ⭐️
This afternoon we discussed how to look after ourselves both physically and mentally. We talked about the importance of friendship and smiling. We then went outside and enjoyed laughing and playing together both as a whole class and in smaller groups.
Practical Maths! 🔢
Today in Maths we have been learning how to share amounts into equal groups. The children had to work in pairs to share different amounts of cubes into groups of 2, 5 and 10. Tomorrow we are going to move on from cubes and instead use drawings to help us.
Well done Emerald Class!
