Fair trade Brownies!

Today Diamond Class have been busy cooking up super yummy fair trade gluten free brownies! The children have been busy weighing, measuring, mixing and folding to make a delicious treat for you all to enjoy at home! We found out all about the importance of buying fair trade when we can and how it means that families can afford to live a better life because of us 🥰

Science! 🦔🪴

This week Ruby Class began their new Science topic, living things and their habitats!

We learnt about the seven processes of life and used the mnemonic MRS GREN! We had to come up with examples of how these life processes appear in plants and animals.

Ruby Class then used their learning to decided whether the different sorting cards were living, dead or never alive. We showed excellent teamwork and curiosity!! 🌟

Forest School

We had such a wonderful first session at Forest School! Many thanks to Mrs Ashley for all her hard work planning and setting up our brilliant lessons for us! At Forest School, we learn outside in our woodland areas and the activities help us to develop many life skills. We love being outside, exploring nature and learning about the environment. Forest School is so much fun!

We started by exploring our Forest School areas and learning the rules and routines. The children who had been to Forest School before could recall many of the rules. Well done Emeralds!

Our Forest School learning links to our new unit of learning on plants. We created our very own journals to document the learning we complete at Forest School. Emerald Class worked really hard to create their own journals, it was quite tricky to create but the children were so resilient and had a good try at using the sticks and rubber bands to tie their books together. Great job Emeralds!

We hunted around for signs of Spring. I was so impressed that the children could recall so many facts about Spring from our previous topic about the seasons. We saw many signs of Spring; lots of buds on the trees and new life starting to grow. We recorded our findings in our new journals.

We had a great time exploring in Forest School! You can see from the children’s faces how much they have enjoyed today! Well done brilliant Emeralds!

Fruit Tasting! 🍓🥭🍌🍍🍉

This term Ruby Class will be designing, creating and evaluating their own fruit smoothies! 😍

To start our project, today we had lots of fun tasting lots of yummy fruit! We decided which fruit we like best and thought about the fruits we might like to use in our own fruit smoothies. 🍓🍉🍍🍌🥭

Take a look at us having lots of fun below! 🥰

World Book Day 2022 📚

Ruby Class had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day!!

The children enjoyed talking about what they had come to school dressed as and why the book they had chosen was special to them.

Afterwards, we had a special secret reader who came into our class to read us some wonderful stories. The children were super listeners and asked some excellent questions! 🥰

Thank you Mrs Noden!

Next, we each created our own bookmarks! I can’t wait to see them being used lots!! 🥰

Later on we had a visit from a princess Cinderella! She read us even more stories!

Finally, to finish off our wonderful morning we completed a readathon!

All in all, Ruby Class had a fantastic day! 🥰

Opal class world book day

Opal class have had a great time celebrating world book day today. We have scoured through the pages of our books to complete a book scavenger hunt, presented our favourite books to the class, entered a competition to design next years world book day token, joined an expert illustration workshop, created personalised bookmarks and had a sing a long and Q&A with Cinderella.

World Book Day! 📚⭐

“I love reading because I have a big smile on my face” Maddie said! Emerald Class love to hear stories, share books and read!

We have had a wonderful, busy and fun day celebrating World Book Day! What fun we had dressing up as our favourite book characters or wearing comfortable pyjamas!

A few weeks ago, Thomas said “it’s amazing what you learn from a book” and we absolutely love this phrase! It has become a class motto! Today, Emerald Class reflected on the importance of reading and I was amazed with the discussion we had in Year One. Here are some of the things said about reading!

We talked about why learning to read is so important:

“Reading is important to help with our writing!” Maisie

William added “reading can help us in maths too!”

“We want to get better at reading” Olivia

We also explored why we enjoy reading:

“I like reading because I like to learn facts and how to learn about the world. We stretch ourselves” Daisy

“I like reading to get super clever” Jaxon

“I like to read because I learn lots of words” Darcie

“I feel calm when I have a story” James

“Reading is fun” Annabel

Well done Emeralds! It was such a joy to hear that you have such enjoyment for reading! 😊❤

We had lots of fun activities on World Book Day! We were visited by Cinderella and we loved sharing our love of books with her! We were even treated to a story and a beautiful singalong! We had a magical time! Thank you Cinderella for coming to visit us, we loved it!

We were also visited by Mrs Noden! Thank you for sharing two wonderful stories with us! We loved the story ‘Aliens in Underpants’, it made us laugh so much! Emerald Class also loved hearing the story and joining in with the classic, Hairy Maclary!

We also had lots of fun reading and sharing the books we brought in from home as well as some of our favourites from our class library. We also used the laptops to complete some fun phonics games where we had to work really hard to apply the sounds we are learning. Well done Emeralds! Emerald Class also completed a fun book scavenger hunt to spot lots of different characters and settings. Well done for finding them Emerald Class! We also completed word searches, made wanted posters for characters such as Goldilocks and we also loved to stop, drop and roll for reading times throughout the morning! I think it’s fair to say we have had a great day celebrating World Book Day and sharing all the things we love and adore about reading! Great work Emeralds!

📚❤️World Book Day📚❤️

Onyx Class have had a brilliant day today celebrating World Book Day. Where else would you find Coco Chanel with Dumbledore and Minnie Mouse?!😂

Throughout the day we completed lots of brilliant, book related activities. We drew our favourite character using our sketching skills; took part in a live lesson based on ‘Books as a way to imagine the impossible’. We met some of our favourite authors and illustrators such as Rikin Parekh, Michael Morpurgo and Nathan Bryon and learnt how a lot of stories are written from things we see in real life eg a fox crossing the road with a bag of chips! We watched how Nadia Shireen gathers her ideas together using an ‘imagination map’ and we even had a go ourselves. This is definitely something we are going to use when we plan our own stories in the future!

We even took part in our own Read-a-thon, munching on a few goodies half way through. Mrs Kyle and Mrs Booth got stuck in as well and Mrs Kyle loved finding out the ending of our class novel ‘Holes’! Tense! 😬

Creating our own book reviews using our word processing skills was the task for the afternoon. We loved challenging ourselves to using all the features, including bullet points, auto shapes and inserting tables. Sharing these and recommending our books to our friends was lots of fun!

Finally, we took part in the Big Book Bonanza Quiz with Table 2 taking the winning🏆 ! Well done Keelie, Lewis and George!

WE LOVED CELEBRATING WORLD BOOK DAY and can’t wait to get home and get reading some more! 📖
