Science investEGGation!!!!!

Today we set up our science investigation to find out which drink causes the most tooth decay?

We have put eggs in cups and covered them in a range of different drinks. We used eggs as they are one of the closest and most similar surfaces to our teeth. We didn’t think it was a good idea to use our own teeth for this investigation!

Over the next week we will watch to see what happens to the shell and whether there is any decay! We will keep you posted!!!!!

Covid 19 Art Project

Way back through time art has been used as a way of recording thoughts, feelings and to document history. As we started back in September Topaz Class used art to document an aspect of COVID -19 and this unprecedented time in history. We talked about how masks are an outward sign that life has changed as we know it. We talked about how they make us feel and the impact of them on how we see the world. We painted self portraits of ourselves wearing masks. A time capsule of 2020!

Tudor Houses

Topaz had fun this afternoon learning about Tudor timber framed buildings. Did you know ……..that because land was so expensive in towns and cities Tudor builders had the ingenious idea of building the first floor, and sometimes the second floor, wider than the ground floor. This created an overhang, which was called a jetty or gallery.

What is the digestive system and why is it so important?

Today in Science we had a lot of fun learning about the function of different parts of the digestive system. We used a slice of bread to help us understand what happens at various stages. It got a bit messy at some points!!!!

Chewing: the teeth break up the food
Spit: saliva mixes with the food
Stomach Acid: Food is squeezed and mixed in the stomach
Sent to the intestines: where the water and nutrients are absorbed

Tudor Clothing

By looking carefully at Tudor paintings, Topaz class were able to identify some important facts about Tudor fashions and styles.

The most surprising thing we discovered was that young rich boys and girls wore girl’s clothes and that children wore the same fashions as their parents! We also noticed that the ‘v’ shape was very fashionable, creating a slim waist on ladies dresses.

Internet Safety

Topaz class have been revisiting how to stay safe online this week by focusing on 5 safety rules. They created posters for us to display around the classroom to remind each other about keeping safe.

The 5 safety rules are:

1. NEVER SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION ONLINE.

2. Always tell a teacher or parent if you receive an unkind or strange message.

3. NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORDS ( apart from with your parents).

4. Don’t share pictures online with strangers.

5. Remember to ask before downloading anything on your phone, computer or laptop. It may be harmful for your computer.
