REMEMBRANCE CINQUAIN POETRY

After watching a short animation called Beyond the Lines, we thought carefully about the message in the film and discussed its meaning and importance.

I was very impressed by the children’s thoughtful responses and sensitivity.

Next, we brainstormed what soldiers might see, hear , smell and feel. We used these ideas to create CINQUAIN poems. Our favourites will be shared during the Remembrance Service on Thursday.

❤️💚 Ruby Class Blog Challenge No.1! 💙💛

Starting this week we are introducing a Team Blog Challenge across our school! Each week I will set a mini team competition/challenge for the children to complete and the first full team of children to complete the challenge will win a trophy for their team!

During Friday’s assembly the winning team for each class will be awarded a Team Trophies!

Challenge 1: In Geography this week we have been learning about oceans! We learnt that an ocean is a very large area of salt water. Our oceans cover most of the earth. Can you write down the five oceans in our world from largest to smallest? 🌍

Remember the first full team to answer this challenge correctly will win the trophy! 🏆

Good luck Rubies!

⭐Please read the whole blog post! Our new and exciting team challenge is at the bottom of this post!⭐

What a super start to our new topic, Emeralds! We had a wonderful morning becoming astronauts! The class have already asked lots of questions and shared their knowledge! Well done superstars!

We also started our topic by writing our very own story books! We created our own books about ‘my journey into space’. We loved sharing our stories with our friends. We also wrote some super sentences about space too! What a great start to Autumn 2! 😃

TEAM CHALLENGE! 🔴🟡🟢🔵

Each week we will set a class team challenge. During Friday’s Celebration Assembly, the winning team from each class will earn a trophy which will be added to the whole school team competition! The team with the most points will win a trophy!

Which team will win the trophy this week?! It’s all to play for! 😊🏆

Our first exciting blog challenge!

You need to find out a space fact to share with Emerald Class! Write it down on a piece of paper (or in the reading record) and show Mrs Styles or Mrs Huntbach to earn a point! The team that earns the most points will win the trophy this week! Please bring these facts into school by Thursday so we can count them up. Good luck Emeralds!

Team Day in Emerald Class

We had a super day for our Halloween themed team day! We loved sharing our super costumes and pumpkins that the children decorated at home! We love working in our house teams!

We took part in lots of special activities. We made up our own alliterative poems in English including phrases such as ‘spooky spiders and scary skeletons’. Can you make your own Halloween alliterative poem?

Emerald Class are busy bees!

In Maths, we learnt about measuring. We used standard and non-standard measures to help us to find out how tall the pumpkins are. We used rulers to find centimetre measurements. We talked about how our measurements need to be accurate and precise. Emerald Class were excellent at making sure they checked their measurement at eye level.

We had a great time in Geography completing the PTA Halloween trail. We had to explore our school grounds to find the different Halloween objects. It was lots of fun finding all the items!

As part of our PSHE task, we learnt about health and wellbeing. We talked about different healthy snacks we could make to ensure we have a balanced diet. Emeralds were super at creating their own ghost fruit kebabs. Well done Emeralds! The children loved using the edible cake pens to create their ghost faces!

We hope you all have a wonderful Halloween and half term holiday!

Get ready for our next topic which is all about space! Our incredibly talented Mrs Huntbach worked really hard to get our space role play area ready for us after the half term break! We can’t wait to see the space rockets that you’re going to make at home in readiness for our next topic! Have a wonderful half term!

Emerald class learning

Well done Emerald Class! You have been working really hard this half term! Here are a few updates on our learning over the last few weeks.

In Music, we have been enjoying learning the song ‘Hey You’. I wonder if the children sometimes sing this at home; it’s very catchy! We learnt and performed the song using the glockenspiel to find the pulse. Emerald Class practised keeping in time with each other. We love our music lessons!

The children also work very hard in their PE lessons! We love to keep fit and stay active!

As part of our Geography lessons, we have been exploring where we live. Emerald Class talked about the different villages and places they know around Nantwich. They wrote about where they live and the places they live near to. We looked at a map of our county, Cheshire. We talked about lots of places we may have visited in our county.

Emerald children created a map using symbols and a key to explore their journey to school. We talked about the different things the children spot on their journeys.

We explored our local area and looked at where we live in the United Kingdom. Emerald children learnt about the four countries of the UK and we discussed some of the places the children have visited. We labelled a map and found out where these countries are located.

Emerald Class worked incredibly hard to create their ‘place in the world’ model. We started with the smallest circle to identify our homes and as the circles got bigger, so was the size of the area we were exploring. Well done Emeralds, you have worked very hard on this activity!

We also had a brilliant seasonal week learning all about Amazing Autumn as part of our work on the seasons in our science learning!

Emerald Class shared their Autumn treasures that they brought in from home. We loved sharing all the wonderful findings! What a beautiful season to explore!

We produced some fantastic descriptions of Autumn linked to our English work. Well done Emeralds. You used some fantastic vocabulary to write about Autumn.

Emerald children have been working so hard and they have made such a brilliant start to their time in Year One! Keep up the amazing work, Emeralds!

We are excited for our next topic, ‘Zoom to the moon!’

Amazing Autumn!

Throughout Year One, we have planned four seasonal weeks for us to learn
more about the seasons! We have had a super start to our Autumn week!

Many thanks for all your hard work at home to collect lots of wonderful
Autumn treasures! The children have added so many wonderful things to our class
collection and we have used these to make our very own sensory descriptions of
Autumn.

Welcome to Emerald Class!

Welcome to Emerald Class blog! Now our blog is up and running, we can share lots of our learning with you!

Emerald children have had a super start to their time in Year One. They have worked incredibly hard to learn the new rules and routines and we are really proud of your hard work! It’s a joy to be in Emerald Class with such happy and curious learners!

Learning

In English, the children have been working hard to write instructions. As part of our seasonal learning, the children planted daffodils. We can’t wait to see them flower in the spring! Emerald Class discussed and wrote the instructions for how to plant the bulbs. They worked very hard to include ‘bossy’ verbs and time words. In Emerald Class, we are working very hard to read our writing back aloud and check that our sentences make sense. Our class target is to make sure our sentences begin with a capital letter, include finger spaces between words and end with a full stop.

Linking to Halloween learning, Emerald Class then made their very own magic potions. They wrote the instructions for how to fly, become invisible and even how to turn into a cat! Emerald Class are very imaginative and used lots of interesting ingredients in their potions!

In Maths, we are following the White Rose Scheme. The children are working brilliantly on using the part-whole model to find different ways to make numbers. We are currently exploring number bonds. We are using resources to support us and models such as bar models, tens frames and the whole-part model.

Please see the sheet sent home with ideas how to support your child to learn the number bonds! Emerald Class are enjoying exploring the different ways to make numbers.
