Emerald Learning πŸŒˆπŸš€

Well done Emeralds you have had another super week!

We have been working really hard on our learning in Maths to explore the concept of addition as well as to learn our number bonds!

On Friday, the children made their very own number bond rainbow which went home. Please help your children to learn these number bonds off by heart! We hope the rainbow might make a good display and a nice way to learn the different ways to make the total!

You worked super hard Emeralds! Keep working hard to form your numbers the correct way round too!

We love to explore the concepts within Maths. We used number cards, Numicon, tens frames, number lines and lots more resources! We like to use practical methods to help us to learn and embed the concepts. πŸ˜ƒ

We had a great time learning about the very first person to land on the moon, Neil Armstrong! We found out lots about his adventures.

Did you know that his footprints are still on the moon even though it’s been more than 50 years since he has been! Wow!

It is such a joy to talk to Emerald Class about space. They have shared lots of knowledge so far! I think we have a few future astronauts and scientists in our class!
Emerald Class were also amazing when we created images of the solar system. We talked about the size of the planets and Emerald Class tried really hard to show this perspective in their work too!

Word Problems! πŸ”’

Ruby Class loved getting active on Thursday while completing Maths!

Today we had lots of addition and subtraction word problems spread around out classroom. With a partner our task was to find the problems and solve them using all of the addition and subtraction knowledge we have learned over the past few weeks! Look at us in action below!

Remembrance Week ❀️

This week Ruby Class have been learning all about remembrance.

The children have shared some excellent knowledge about Remembrance Day and why we come together each year to think of those who gave their tomorrow for out today.

On Tuesday, the children created some fantastic remembrance list poems. I was blown away with the children’s ideas and the quality of their work.

On Thursday, we had a wonderful Remembrance Day assembly with our whole school led by Onyx class (Year 5/6). We then went outside to our flagpole and lay a Remembrance wreath and showed our respect with a 2 minute silence. Following this we had some super Year 6’s come and read us some beautiful remembrance poetry.

To finish off the week, we enjoyed creating our own landscape pieces of art based on what we think Flanders field would look like when poppies grow each year. We used oil pastels and water colours to create our wonderful masterpieces. We talked about making sure the poppies in the foreground were larger than those in the middle and background.

Well done Ruby Class. You are all AMAZING!

Fantastic RE learning

Emerald Class love their RE learning with Mrs Huntbach! Emerald Class have been learning about the Jewish Festival, Sukkot. Sukkot is a week-long Jewish holiday that comes five days afterΒ Yom Kippur. Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest. Sukkot also commemorates the biblical story of the Jews’ escape from Egypt. They wandered for 40 years through the desert, living in temporary shelters.

These temporary shelters form a large part of the Sukkot festival today. Jewish families create a Sukkah, which is a temporary shelter or hut built outside. The roof of the Sukkah must be made of something that used to grow in the Earth (such as palm leaves or bamboo). The walls can be made of any material that can hold up to the wind. Families will decorate their huts with leaves, fruit and vegetables.

Emerald Class have been superstars during their learning and made a model Sukkah with their partner. Super team work Emeralds!

Remembrance learning

We learnt lots about the significance of Remembrance this week and why the poppy is such an important symbol of Remembrance.

The children were excellent in our Remembrance activities. They were so respectful and thoughtful during our Remembrance assembly and when we went outside to have our two minute silence. Well done Emeralds!

As part of our Remembrance writing, we wrote poems this week. Here is a selection of some of our work:

We also wrote poems focussing on the red and black colours shown in the poppy.

We also worked really hard on our field of poppy masterpieces. We used paint to create the meadow and sky, followed by the red poppy shapes. Emerald Class then added more detail to the meadow by adding other flowers to the meadow using oil pastels. Well done Emeralds! The children really impressed Mrs Huntbach and I with how carefully they used the paintbrushes and pastels to create their work. We loved how much the children thought about the effect they wanted to create. It’s wonderful to see just how unique every piece is! Great work Emeralds!

Blog challenge update! πŸŸ’πŸŸ‘πŸ”΄πŸ”΅

Great work on so many entries to our blog competition this week! Here are the entries of the poppies made! We love them! Thank you for all of your hard work, the children have enjoyed sharing their creations with the class! πŸ˜ƒ

Stay tuned to see which will be the winning team!

A magical visit! βœ¨

Emerald Class had such a wonderful time meeting Belle today! πŸ˜ƒ

We had such a magical visit and we learnt how much Belle loves to read! Emerald Class loved to hear the story of Beauty and the Beast and they joined in beautifully with some singing too! The children loved to tell Belle how much they love to read for pleasure too! It was so much fun talking to Belle!

Emerald Class had such a great time meeting Belle! Thank you for visiting us!

Belle made such an impression on the class that Emeralds were really keen to write her some cards! Here’s one of the lovely cards made for Belle! If you want to make a card for Belle, you’re welcome to bring them to school and we can get them posted to her castle! We know how much she loves to read!

What a wonderful visit we had! Here are Belle’s contact details below if you would like further information about booking her for parties and events!

Bonfire Night, Remembrance and our blog challenge!

See our blog
challenge at the bottom
of this post!

Wow Emerald Class! You did some super work when you were learning all about Bonfire Night!

Keep practising your number bonds, Emeralds! We used firework shapes to help us learn our number bonds to 10! Can you work on these at home? How many different ways can you make 10?

Well done Emeralds, you made some beautiful firework displays over the houses of Parliament!

πŸ”΅πŸŸ’πŸŸ‘πŸ”΄ Blog time! Here is our weekly blog challenge!

For this week’s blog challenge, you have until Thursday (11th November) to create your very own poppy.

To make your poppy you could use;

  • paint
  • colouring pencils
  • crayons
  • the computer to make a digital poppy
  • poppy coloured items from around your home and make your poppy out of these objects! Take a photo of your transient art poppy and share this with us in school!
  • you may think of another way to create your poppy!

Please bring these poppies (or photographs of what you have made) into school by Thursday. Many thanks! I can’t wait to see what you will create! Emerald Class are very creative! πŸ˜ƒ

Remember the team with the most entries will win the class team trophy!

We will be completing lots of learning around Remembrance this week so the poppies made will be used as part of our learning.

Emerald Class celebrated Diwali!

Happy Diwali!

Emerald Class had a wonderful time learning about Diwali, the festival of lights! We learnt about the Hindu story of Rama and Sita and learnt about some of the traditions involved in celebrating Diwali.

Emerald Class really impressed me with their superb teamwork to help design and create some wonderful Rangoli patterns. The children were incredible; they were so engaged in the task and their team work was fantastic. Well done on working so well with your partner to discuss your designs and then working so well together to create your pattern. We all had lots of smiles on our faces! Very proud teacher alert! πŸ˜ƒ

Emerald updates πŸŒŸπŸš€

⭐ Remember to join in with our class blog challenge! Can you write a space fact to share with the class? The team with the most points will win the trophy in Friday’s assembly! ⭐ Please see our earlier blog post for more information!

We have been super busy so far this half term! Emerald Class are getting really stuck into our space topic and it is such a pleasure to see how enthusiastic and curious the children are!

We made good use of our art books this week. With Mrs Huntbach, the children created their own rocket pictures using drawing skills. Later in the week, we used black and white colours to create a repeating pattern. We explored the effect of the colours before adding geometric details. The children were also challenged to ensure their rocket had a symmetrical pattern.
Well done Emeralds, you worked really hard and we love the effect of the rockets!

The children were so engaged during the task! πŸ˜ƒ Well done Emeralds!

We love our art activities!

Our wonderful Emerald Bear also couldn’t resist joining in with our space fun! He had an adventure to space which Emerald children loved to write about! Emerald Bear certainly goes on some fun and exciting adventures! Check out the wonderful descriptions written by our Year One children! Wow πŸš€πŸŒŸ

This week is also Money Sense Awareness Week! We talked about what we use money for as well as learning about the value of coins. We ordered them from the smallest to largest value, as well as learning how to make amounts. We worked on finding amounts up to 20p. Tomorrow we will make a toy shop and use the coins to be able to pay for the toys! Emerald Class worked really hard to sort the coins and to identify their values Well done!

Super work Emerald Class! πŸ˜ƒβ
