North America Powerpoints!

After 4 sessions of researching facts about a North American country, Topaz class enjoyed sharing their learning with each other .

It has definitely made us all wish for a sunny tropical beach holiday in Barbados, The Bahamas or Jamaica ! Many are hoping one day they may get to visit the vibrant countries of Cuba or Mexico.

For nature lovers, Costa Rica or Guatemala is the place to go.

Canada had something for everyone with beautiful lakes, wildlife and snow capped mountains and the fact that stood out the most for me is that Greenland is the biggest island in the world yet only has a population of 56,000.

SOUND MACHINE!

Today Topaz class had their first bucket drumming music session! We had sooooo much fun practising our first rhythm and learning about how the different parts of the bucket create different sounds and how to correctly hold our drum sticks. We are going to be unstoppable! We hope to share our progress with you over this half term!

It’s amazing what you can do with a bucket!

Sneaky Peek!

Shhhhh! We have finished painting our Christmas card designs today!!!! I know it is early but we have to allow them time to be made. Further information will be sent out soon.

There wasn’t a paint brush in sight!!! The children used a fork and cotton buds to create this super effect! Happy Christmas from Topaz Class!

Science investEGGation!!!!!

Today we set up our science investigation to find out which drink causes the most tooth decay?

We have put eggs in cups and covered them in a range of different drinks. We used eggs as they are one of the closest and most similar surfaces to our teeth. We didn’t think it was a good idea to use our own teeth for this investigation!

Over the next week we will watch to see what happens to the shell and whether there is any decay! We will keep you posted!!!!!

Covid 19 Art Project

Way back through time art has been used as a way of recording thoughts, feelings and to document history. As we started back in September Topaz Class used art to document an aspect of COVID -19 and this unprecedented time in history. We talked about how masks are an outward sign that life has changed as we know it. We talked about how they make us feel and the impact of them on how we see the world. We painted self portraits of ourselves wearing masks. A time capsule of 2020!

What is the digestive system and why is it so important?

Today in Science we had a lot of fun learning about the function of different parts of the digestive system. We used a slice of bread to help us understand what happens at various stages. It got a bit messy at some points!!!!

Chewing: the teeth break up the food
Spit: saliva mixes with the food
Stomach Acid: Food is squeezed and mixed in the stomach
Sent to the intestines: where the water and nutrients are absorbed
